2016 - Day 348:
I designed the furniture items for the in-game Housing Feature for www.Furvilla.com, which is a fun and interactive browser-based game.
Today's Furniture Spotlight brings us a closer look at Oceandome's Appliances!
Some of my favourite overall furniture items are in this feature today. The general idea for the appliances for Oceandome was to combine the unnatural rigidity of piping (and thus some hard rectangles) as well as making what I could very round and fish-bowl like.
The fridge was fun to design into this seashell-like shape that allowed for easy segmentation. If you look closely you can see that the different sections have different amounts of stars to help label just how cold each section is kept.
The fireplace was tricky because I wanted to have it make use of a natural hot water vent which can be found along the ocean floor, but I finally solved the awkward water spout shape by sticking it into a very appropriate little dome. I imagine it is there not only to contain the vent but also to help disperse the heat it gives off more evenly.
The Oceandome bed is one of the items that have an extra level of depth into the design that probably doesn't show through very clearly unless you're told about it. I had designed it while keeping in mind that many of Oceandome's residents would naturally be more at home in the water than just under it, so it is a combination piece. It has a mattress on top should one choose to use it as a regular bed, but it also has a crank that would move the mattress out of the way to allow the resident to instead sink into the now open water-tank if that suited them better. Anyway, that's just a bit of a delve into the way my mind works and how I often over-think a lot of my work!
Hope you guys like them! Tomorrow we will take a look at Oceandome's last few miscellaneous items!
